Week eight of the MOSA fall 2008 season ....
Break up the U11 Berkeley OUTLAWS! For the second week in a row, the undermanned Outlaws stepped up and emerged victorious. The Outlaws took on the Allentown/Upper Freehold Strikers this past Sunday and came away with a hard fought 2-1 victory. Coach Scott “The Shadow” Cranstoun, had these Outlaws riding across the countryside wrecking havoc on their opponents for the second week in a row. This group of Outlaws has proven to be tougher than the James Gang! Coach Scott is the subject of a very interesting piece by a very well known national sports magazine. Look for his picture on the cover of an upcoming edition. But remember, as written in this space last week - winning is terrific, being on a team that is “all for one and one for all” is better!
Overall, the results for Week 8 were mixed: four wins and two losses. Here are the complete week seven results.
The U15 Berkeley GALAXY took the long and winding road to Jackson to face the Jackson Renegades. This Sunday’s event proved to be a rugged match all around. The Galaxy suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Renegades who demonstrated excellent ball control and a sustained attack. Coach Frank “Leave the Gun, Take the Cannoli” Cuiffo was impressed as his girls played physically and mentally tough against a very good Jackson squad.
The U13 Berkeley CHEETAHS took on the TRIC Dolphins. Coach Bill “Young Jeezy” had his Cheetahs fired up once again this Sunday afternoon. The Cheetahs held on to win this match by a score of 3-2. After the game, Coach Jeezy was overheard to say that his girls deserved the win against a very tough TRIC team. He was also overheard complaining about the lack of press coverage his team receives. Besides the usual beat reporters, there was very limited coverage from the national sports outlets. Stay tuned, as this team continues to rocket to the top, there will undoubtedly be more national coverage.
The FIRST PLACE U12 Berkeley SHOOTING STARS continued to hold on to their current position; however their lead is down to one slim point. This past week the Shooting Stars stumbled against their nearest opponent as they fell to the TRSA Blaze by a score of 5-0. Coach Frank “The Big Show” Crowe showed no signs of concern as the game unfolded before him. Afterwards, as is his usual custom, Coach Crowe politely declined an interview when the ESPN cameras began to roll. Never wanting to be in the limelight, Coach Crowe got into his stretch limo and left the field. (Hey, he’s a big man, did you expect him to drive off in a Mini Cooper?!)
As reported in last week’s article, the U10 Berkeley STARZ pre-played their game scheduled for November 2nd, the Starz defeated the second-place Millstone Cyclones by a score of 2-1. Overall the Starz are still shining and expect a strong finish to the fall season.
The U10 Boys CHARGERS, led by Coach Larry “Babyface” Burg, had his boys matched up against the TRSA Rage. The first time these two teams met the match ended in a 0-0 tie. Coach Burg once again had his lads focused on the game at hand. They managed to defeat what was the number one team in their flight and handed the Rage a very competitive 2-1 loss. Although Coach Burg continues to keep his boys away from the nightlife, the groupies and the paparazzi he may have shown some signs of caving in to the spotlight himself. A reliable source suggests that Coach Babyface is wondering why he doesn’t get the stretch limo and why his picture won’t be on the cover of a national magazine. There was even a report that Coach Babyface wanted to rename the Club to be known as the “Burg Soccer Association.” Let me say this about all that, this reporter knows Coach Babyface – he is not the type to complain about silly little things like a limo and a magazine cover.
The U11 Berkeley TORNADOES score from this week was not reported at the time this was written.
Stay tuned…
